The Houston Jaguars, the nation’s premiere women’s traveling basketball team, launch their tenth season on Tuesday, October 31, 2006. As a travel team, the lady Jaguars play some of the nations top college women’s basketball teams in a challenging and highly competitive college preseason schedule.
The team is comprised of excellent women athletes, most of whom played college basketball at schools such as University of Houston, Rice, Texas Southern University and University of Texas. As the tenth season opens, Jaguar Coach, Louis Ray calls this year’s team one of the finest teams he has yet to field.
“We expect this year to be one of our most successful seasons to date,” he said. A professional trainer by profession, Ray commented, “This year’s team is taking the season very seriously and they are filled with competitive spirit.”
This year’s schedule includes games against several of the nation’s top ranked women’s college basketball teams including University of Tennessee, University of Connecticut, Texas A&M, Rutgers and Baylor University. In the October 31st season opener, the Jaguars face off against Texas Tech in Lubbock.
The season also includes games against University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas at El Paso, North Texas, Rutgers University, Sam Houston, University of Houston, and University of Southern Mississippi.
Several of the Jaguar opponents this season are led by legendary Hall of Fame coaches such as Pat Summitt at University of Tennessee, Vivian Stringer at Rutgers, Jody Conradt at UT Austin and Geno Auriemma at University of Connecticut. Ray noted, “These are some of the best coaches in college basketball. These coaches are legends and we are proud to be able to face off against them.”
